The best way to understand Innsworth Preschool is to visit us in person. A visit allows you to see the setting as it really is, meet the team, and understand how our calm routines, structured day, and high-quality learning environment come together to support children every day.
While a website can explain what we offer, visiting gives you a clear picture of how the day actually works. You will see how children move through a well-organised 10-hour day (8:00am to 6:00pm), how staff support them, and how our indoor and outdoor environments are used purposefully throughout the day.
Innsworth Preschool is a purpose-built, independent setting in the heart of Innsworth, designed to provide a safe, welcoming and well-structured environment. With 30 children per session, the atmosphere remains calm and manageable, allowing children to feel secure, settled and ready to learn.
Opening Hours, Session Structure and the Preschool Day
We are open from 8:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday, providing up to 10 hours of care across the day. This structure supports working families while helping us maintain a calm, consistent and well-managed environment for children.
The preschool day is built around two structured 5-hour sessions:
- Morning Session: 8:00am to 1:00pm
- Afternoon Session: 1:00pm to 6:00pm
Children can attend a single session or a full day, depending on what works best for their family and what is suitable and available within the setting.
Families who would like their child to attend from 9:00am to 3:00pm would need to book both the Morning Session and the Afternoon Session. Parents can then choose their preferred drop-off and collection times within those booked sessions.
We are unable to book part of a session block, such as only booking until 3:00pm, because each booked place uses one of our limited session spaces. If a child is booked into the afternoon session, that place cannot usually be offered to another child for the remaining part of the session. For this reason, families need to book the full session block, even if they choose to collect earlier.
Each session includes a set meal time, helping children stay well fed, settled and ready to take part fully in the day. We also offer free breakfast from 8:30am to 9:30am, helping children start the day calmly and supporting families during busy mornings.
Meal times are a planned part of the learning experience, not just a break in the day. Children develop communication, independence, social skills, routines and healthy habits through shared meals in a calm and structured environment.
Our approach focuses on providing meaningful, well-structured time, rather than long, unstructured days. This helps children stay engaged, build confidence, and feel secure within a routine that supports their development.
Enrolment, Availability and Next Steps
Places at Innsworth Preschool are limited to 30 children per session, helping us maintain a calm, well-managed environment and provide closer support for each child.
Availability depends on age, session choice, current numbers, staffing, ratios and the overall balance of the setting. Because of this, session arrangements are confirmed only after we have met the child and family and confirmed that we can appropriately meet the child’s needs within our group-care environment.
Our usual admissions process is:
- Step 1: A short visit with the parent or carer and child
- Step 2: A Stay and Play session
- Step 3: Discussion of suitable sessions and next steps
- Step 4: Enrolment paperwork, fees, funding and policies provided before a start date is agreed
Parents and carers remain responsible for their child during visits and Stay and Play sessions.
All places are confirmed in writing, with full details of fees, funding and policies provided before a start date is agreed.
We recommend getting in touch early, as demand for places is consistently high.
Arranging Your Preschool Visit
We welcome families to visit and see how the setting works in practice. A visit gives you a clear view of the environment, routines and daily flow, so you can decide if it is the right fit for your child.
All visits are by appointment only. This helps us keep the setting calm, safe and well organised, and ensures a member of the team is available to speak with you properly during your visit.
During your visit, you will be able to:
- See the setting in operation
- Observe how children move through the day
- View both indoor and outdoor learning environments
- Understand how the 8:00am to 6:00pm day and sessions work in practice
- Ask questions about routines, meals, sessions and availability
Visits are kept focused so that staff can continue supervising children safely. If you have more detailed questions about fees, funding or specific arrangements, these can be discussed separately after your visit.
Our aim is to give you a clear and honest picture of how the preschool runs, so you can make an informed decision with confidence.
Stay and Play: The Next Step After Your Visit
After your initial visit, the next step is usually a Stay and Play session. This helps your child become familiar with the setting before a place or start date is confirmed.
During Stay and Play, your child can explore the environment, take part in activities and begin building confidence, while a parent or carer remains with them.
Stay and Play sessions are:
- Structured to reflect the normal preschool day
- Designed to support confidence and familiarity
- Used to help us understand how your child responds to the setting
- Limited in numbers to keep the environment calm
- Booked in advance
They are not open play sessions. They are a planned step to help your child feel more settled and to help us consider whether we can appropriately meet their needs within our group-care setting.

Innsworth Preschool is located in the heart of Innsworth, next to Innsworth Infant School, at the end of Mottshead Drive and Luke Lane, Gloucester, GL3 1HJ.
We are easily accessible from Gloucester and Cheltenham, and well placed for families connected to Imjin Barracks, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, the University of Gloucestershire and surrounding business areas.
The setting can be reached easily by car, walking or cycling, making daily drop-offs and collections more manageable.
